Q What is Permanent Cosmetic Enhancement?

A You have probably read or seen on television advertisements for permanent cosmetics, also known as derma pigmentation. Permanent cosmetics are a form of cosmetic tattooing used to enhance facial features or as a finishing touch to surgical procedures. The procedure involves a technique that inserts pigment (color) under the skin.

Q Who should have the Permanent Cosmetic Enhancement?

A More and more people are discovering the benefits of this exciting procedure:
(1) Older women with poor eye site and unsteady hands.
(2) Women who swim, travel or camp and like the freedom of looking their best even under the most active conditions.
(3) Handicapped individuals and individuals with allergies.
(4) Busy women who want to look their best at all times.
(5) After surgical procedures, women can use permanent cosmetics to camouflage scars or to create the illusion of areolas and nipples after breast reconstructive surgery.
(6) Men may want permanent color to give the look of fuller eyebrows, to mask the effects of slight balding or to camouflage scars.

Whatever procedures are desired, permanent cosmetics can create a polished look or give you a subtle natural look. Because it is permanent, many women choose to have a natural look. When the occasion demands a more dramatic evening look, one can dress is up with traditional makeup.

Q What should I consider before the procedure?

A Modern permanent cosmetics is not that widely known to many individuals and is new to many areas of the country, however the concept dates back to ancient Egypt. Over the last 20 years this industry has grown rapidly in popularity. Because this is such a relatively new field, you MUST do research before choosing a technician. Q How do I choose a technician?

A To choose a technician:

  • Go to their business location.
  • Ask about their background.
  • Do they keep up with continuing education?
  • Do they belong to any associations?
  • Check the cleanliness of their business location and determine if they use heat sterilization on all equipment.
  • Ask to see photographs of their work.
  • Tell the technician what exactly you want done and listen to their ideas.
  • Did they listen to what you wanted?
  • Being able to communicate with the technician is absolutely essential.
  • Ask for referrals.

Q How much does it cost?

A Prices range from $100 - $1,000 depending on the procedure. DO NOT choose a technician based on price alone. Base your decision on your research of their work and on their competence.

Q Is a topical anesthetic used?

A It is not uncommon for a technician to use a topical anesthetic to ease discomfort. Many clients fall asleep during the procedure.
